Sigma Beta Rho History

Sigma Beta Rho National Multicultural Fraternity Incorporated was founded on August 16th, 1996 at the University of Pennsylvania. Established on the ideals of society, brotherhood, and remembrance, Sigma Beta Rho has become the largest and most expansive fraternity of its kind. Through these ideals, the brothers of this fraternity are dedicated to serving their community, strengthening their brotherhood, and breaking down the ethnic and cultural barriers that would otherwise keep them apart. Our founders realized the unique promise of a Greek-lettered organization that instills positive values amongst its members, provides an avenue for leadership, and stresses self-betterment.
Sigma Beta Rho here at Florida State University is the newest organization to join the Multicultural Greek Council. We are proud to be members of this council and are confident that we can contribute to help the council progress further. Thus far, we have organized philanthropy events at Adopt a Road Cleanup, Centre Pointe Health & Rehabilitation Center, Ronald McDonald House, Boys and Girls Club, Relay for Life, Youth Literacy, Dade Community Center, Leon County Public Libraries, Southeastern Community Blood Center and many more.
Our brothers are active in programs and organizations such as Student Government – Oglesby Union Board, Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Med Honor Society, Florida State University Honors Program, Biology Mentors, Hindu StudentAssociation, Asian American Student Union, Garnet and Gold Key, Golden Key International, Muslim Student Association, FSUnited, Insight Political Party, Voice Political Party, Caribbean Student Association, National Hispanic Business Association, Circle K International, Pre-Dental Society, Pre-Pharmacy Society, and Alternative Break Corps.

RHO SYMBOLIZES REMEMBRANCE.
At a time when many individuals share a birthplace different from that of their ancestors. It is necessary for an individual to recognize and appreciate his culture. Thee Florida State University Colony History

In the Fall of 2005, 3 ambitious men came together with a goal in mind. These men wanted to bring an organization to Florida State, an organization which prides itself on service to its community and cultural awareness. They wanted its members to not only be diverse, but to share a bond much like the bond of brotherhood. These men, immortalized as the “Untouchable Alphas”, found a match in to their dream in Sigma Beta Rho.
With the addition of the “Unbreakable Betas” and “Gamma Revolution”, these 11 men together were able to accomplish their goal in the Spring of 2007 by gaining recognition to the Multicultural Greek Council of Florida State University. These 11 men shaped the values and ideals of the Florida State University colony of Sigma Beta Rho for many years to come.
